MV Dhamma Fellowship for the first time since its inception in 2010 held a luncheon gathering on March 1st 2015, a deviation from the traditional dinner, attended by Bhante Cakkapala, our Religious Advisor.
A total of 15 executive committee members attended the luncheon at Yes Natural Restaurant with an overseas guest Bhante Suneetha from Sri Lanka who is attending course at The Buddhist Collage and residing at Bright Hill.
We also welcomed a local guest Paduma Wang who chauffeured Bhante Cakkapala and Bhante Suneetha.
While we are still in the Lunar New Year festival mood, we had a vegetarian yu sheng (鱼生) meaning raw fish. It is a salad dish comprising thin slices of raw fish and various spices, mixed as diners toss the ingredients.
A lohei (捞起) session, or tossing for good wealth and health symbolized by tossing finely shredded vegetable of several colours with condiments, sweet plum sauce, crackers and mock slices of fish.
Diners gathered round the tables to toss the salad ingredients while saying auspicious couplets of well wishes out loud to usher in good luck and prosperity for the Lunar New Year.
It is also believed the higher the toss the greater will be the fortune.
It was a new experience for Bhante Cakkapala and Bhante Suneetha who soaked in our local tradition in the mist of merriments and tasted the dish.
We exchanged greetings and extended good tidings and wishes to each other in bonding our ties in the spirit of the Fellowship fraternity…
